In the following descriptions of this remarkable collection, the numbers in parentheses at the beginning of each lot, refer to Haseltine’s List; but I have not followed his peculiar denominational consecutiveness, preferring the more appropriate order of the sets as indicated by the Printer and Engraver.

No duplicates until mentioned.

No imaginary varieties.

No coimterfeits, except the single lot so described.

Each “series” and letter mentioned.

When an important difference occurs in the paper, such as watermarked letters,'^ etc., it is always noted.

Every cancelled note described as ''' clean cut," when no portion of the note is missing, or pimched," when the piece is cut out.
